Teen Acne

Acne is a skin condition wherein the hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells, and may appear as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, pustules, and cysts.  It usually appears on the face, forehead, chest, upper back, and shoulders and is most common in teenagers, hence the term teen acne. But it can affect people of any age. It is usually not a serious health threat but, if untreated, can cause acne scars. Acne severity may range from mild to moderate to severe. Mild acne involves fewer than 30 lesions and may be treated successfully with home remedies or over-the-counter medications. Moderate acne involves anywhere from 30 to 125 lesions while severe acne may involve the same count as moderate acne but with accompanying swelling and redness and can often leave scars. It is highly recommended that moderate to severe acne be treated by qualified dermatologists to prevent acne scars.
